THE J-KEY TUTORIAL
The J-Key Tutorial comes in two sections.
ET Come on Home
The J-Key Tutorial comes in two sections. The first section is presented in story book form called ET Come on Home.
It's the story of a young boy who is unable to walk or communicate verbally. The boy, Edward, meets an alien who introduces him to a J-Key communicator and is himself saved in the process. The aim of the story is to show the effects that communication has on a family and to encourage students to see past the long trail of the alphabet, with text messaging and internet access as goals to achieve.
Lessons
This book comprises exercises, which relate loosely to the story. Please feel free to comment on the usefulness of the exercises and story and what improvements can be made. (mjwatling@xtra.co.nz)
I recommend a copy of the alphabet code is in view for students to review at any time, although, at the end of the sixth lesson I suggest they fly blind for a little while, but only to gain confidence before tackling seven onwards.
The first three letters in the tutorial cover approximately 30% of letters used in English and the next nine take it up to 80%.
I have introduced sounds which play when the colours are selected. The sounds are parts of a C major chord and should make mini tunes for each letter. I would welcome any feedback as to its value as a learning tool.

Good Luck, and enjoy the journey.
